Kex Your Legs

It's kinda strange having to write about myself, but I'll try be as modest and honest as possible. ( I swear, this sounds like an obituary! Frea-kay!)

On Saturday the 10th day of June 1989 at 14:22, in the Florence Nightingale Hospital, Johannesburg, a star was born (Clap fo 'em). Since that day, the world has never been a better place.

Okay, silly intro done. Keke went to a few primary schools, but her fondest memories begin at Potchefstroom High School fo Girls where she matriculated in 2006 (yep, that means when Zama and Anisa were in Matric, she was only beginning her high school days). This year, she will complete her Honours in Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria (TUKS of Niks, neh?!). Home is Mafikeng, but she's pulled a Prodigal Daughter move living in Hatfield, Pretoria. She likes it there cos her room makes her feel like she's in a different country, but she misses her mom a whole lot (shout out, Momeeee!). But anyway, that's the boring stuff. Keke loves all the vintage, stylish and musical things. Like anyone else, I'm sure. What sets her apart from many: Insanity in Sanity. I think she made that up, and it makes sense to her, but it's a tad ridiculous.

Keke says that having a joined party with these two Gemgems, is nothing she would have imagined her 21st birthday to be, but she is ready to take on this Krunk thang like someone who knows how.

Keke's ultimate birthday gift: A pretty digital SLR camera (you know those large ones that make you look like a European tourist? yeah? That one.)

Zama. Power like Obama

25 year old, Zama Ntuli, is a Zulu lassy from the wonderful land of Kid Cudi. Between 8am and 4pm, you can find her at her desk, in the Transnet offices (Well, that's when there isn't a strike going on. In such cases, you might find her diligently at the office at other awkward hours. Things we do...). Zama matriculated from Fourways High School in 2002, and then completed her BCom Degree in Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria in 2005. Before Zama now brightly paints red the streets of Sunninghill, where she lives. It is probably in that precise location where her inner, occasional writer comes to life. Anisa has been lucky enough to use the inner model in Zama, for some of her shoots. Hot!

Zama is the 5th of 6 children who are probably equally to blame for the following family dog names: Brandy and Ding Dong (Zama says her sister, Anele, was 2 when she named the dog). But for the names given to her cars, Zama takes full responsibility- Jaja, Lucille and Dutchee.. And she tells them when the most serious of faces. You've gotta have a gift for reading the humour amidst the potentially intimidating look. I love it!

Zama's ultimate birthday gift: Kid Cudi delivered in a Drake box and a Black Card as the 'Happy Birthday' tag. (Did everyone hear that!?!)

Anisa The Fashioniista

So, who exactly are these Geminettes making this winter a hot one?

Well Lady A is fashion designer, stylist and business woman- Anisa Mpungwe.

Anisa is originally from the beautiful East African country, Tanzania, but has been living in South Africa for over a decade now. She currently rests her head at her family home in Waterkloof, Pretoria. Anisa went finished her high school days at St. Mary's DSG.

Her love for fashion design came rather late in her teens when a certain someone (whom Anisa can't remember) suggested she use her drawing talent and creativity, to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Off the reel, Anisa put all her time and effort into making this idea work. After studying Fashion (go figure) at Midrand Graduate Institute , Ms. Mpungwe's hard work was soon to pay off. In 2008, Anisa earned the title of Winner for the Elle New Talent Competition (Yep, google her, baby!). Her Fall Collection also graced the ramps of New York Fasion Week.

On the third day of June 2010, Anisa greets the tender age of 26. I think that means she was born in... in... Um. I don't know. I'm from the calculator generation. The awesome thing about Anisa, is that she's still as young at heart as a 16 year old (although she might beg to differ). With a party of such Krunk nature, I am certain Anisa is grateful for an opportunity to show off how full of youth she really is. Krunk Krunk, Hooray!

Anisa's ultimate birthday gift: A Black Card, fully loaded, with no limit. Cha-ching!

Krunk Kex Sez

So we're a good ten days from this crazy party... Seriously feels like it's just crept up on us.. Shall I hit you with the cliche? Here it goes: It feels like it was just yesterday that these insane in the membrane Gem ladies thought it cool to throw a mad party. Just for poops and giggles. And the event moniker? All Krunk Err'thang! Heehee. Never thought I'd see the day Krunk and Keke appeared in the same sentence. I've certainly been bitten by the bug though- I'm fenna get buck, Naaa'meeean?! (**,)

I'm particularly stoked about the DJ line up. Not too long ago, I was at a Red Bull and Metro fm Afro Pics gig where Kenzhero played a set that had more than just my feet tapping to the beat (pretty awkward considering that the atmosphere was a mellow sit-down-and-bob-your-head-to-the-beat type vibe). Now that the party is near, I'm getting my moves polished once again..

Nothing better than some old school jams. You know, that music from 'before your time'. Bliss. On that note, I've had one song in my head for a 'hot minute' (Laugh Out Loud!!! What's up with that anyway?! A month is a long time. 60 seconds will not even begin to justify the time consumed playing this song in my head! But for Krunkness' sake, I'll fall back). It goes something like this: "IN-FOR-MA!!! Lalalalalalalaylala nanani boom boom down!" After some research courtesy of my sister, I finally know who sings the song. One hit wonder called Snow and the song features MC Shan. And now, after more than a decade of being satisfied with my version of the song, i found out how the song actually goes.

Informer
You know say daddy me snow me-a (gonna)blame
A licky boom-boom down
'tective man he say, say Daddy Me Snow me stab someone
a licky boom-boom down

Oh dear... I think I was happier with my version, coz the real thing don make-a no sense.

Now I have to think of a stanky-legging, booty-popping, body-shaking, krunk-sounding sign off. Honestly, I have one thing to say (Zama and Anisa, you can kill me after the party):

FEEL IT

It

is

HurRrrrR!!!

Moooohahaha!

So like what's Krunk?

Krunk

is a fusion genre of hip hop music and electro that originated alongside the concept of Krunk, meaning ‘crazy drunk'.

Krunk originated in the mid to late 1990s from Houston Texas and gained mainstream success around 2003 - 2004. specifically Atlanta.

A Krunk track most frequently uses a drum machine rhythm, HEAVY bass line, shouting vocals, often in call and response manner.

Before its new use, the word Krunk was a new way of saying hyped, or pumped up or get excited. In the mid 90’s Krunk was variously defined as a Dirty South slang where to Krunk was defined as "to get excited".

So when yall come to the Throw Down June 5th SHAWTY dun act like ya dun no YAAAYYEEAA!

ALLOW US TO REINTRODUCE OURSELVES

23/05, 06/06, 10/06 – BDAY!
Zama, Anisa & Keke; three irregular girls with equally irregular imaginations!!

Whilst having dinner one night chatting bout how we be loving ourselves and the GEMINI the binds us. Anisa – Chief GI - was keen on publicly celebrating our awesomery. A Party was the obvious conclusion. “An All HIPHOP party” Zama and Keke has laid down the law.
A seed had been planted with no specific reason, no hidden agendas just a Krunk party that all friends can come and enjoy. BECAUSE WE WANT IT and WE CAN!!!

Sponsors were hustled, DJ Friend favours called in, Homemade videos perfected, Wahhhhhh!!!!! For once outfits were the least of our concerns….ok I be lying… having insane fun!
It must be said though that GEMINI’s are allergic to the cold, so provision have been made!!!
An all Krunk, all heated venue; with fresh air and fresher beats for thorough dance-floor waxing.
The only question that remains; IS YOU READY!!!

Keep checkin in on the updates!!

lovin'

Ms A
